it takes a village, people
a weekly support group for parents and caregivers.
what am i signing up for?
this group is an opportunity for parents and caregivers of ND children [of any age] to gather in a supportive space led by a therapist with lived experience — that’s me!
parents (&/or caregivers, chosen family members etc.) will be invited to explore the unique challenges faced by NDers navigating in a world not made for brains like ours.
each week will focus on a different topic or theme and participants will be asked to share about their own relevant experiences & reflect on them together. i will lead you through explorative and experiential exercises that will help you develop a thorough understanding of your loved one’s brain. parents can expect to be challenged in this group; that is, you will be asked to look at your long-held beliefs about parenting and consider the ways in which they no longer serve you. you’ll learn shortcuts for decoding ND behaviours and strategies for meeting your ND loved one where they’re at.
the group is both psychoeducational and process based and draws on narrative, ifs, experiential and somatic approaches. aside from a few basics, there is no set curriculum; the content being taught will be curated based on the unique needs of each group. common themes often included: suicidal ideation, emotional intensity, paradoxical feelings, language differences, emotional regulation & literacy. there will also be a private slack group for members where i will share relevant resources, reading lists and exercises for practicing your skills. group members can also engage with & support one another via slack.
